Which analytics tool fits a small site?
Honest comparisons of SimpleDash with Google Analytics, Looker Studio, Plausible, Fathom, Umami and others: what each is best at, and who should pick which.
The first question isn't which dashboard looks nicest, it's whether you want to keep Google Analytics or replace it. If you keep GA4 (free, with your history), SimpleDash or Looker Studio make it readable. If you want to leave Google, a tool with its own script, like Plausible, Fathom or Umami, is the better fit.
Keep GA4, read it more simply
| Tool | What it is |
|---|---|
| SimpleDash | A ready one-page dashboard on top of your GA4, with a Monday email and public stats pages |
| Looker Studio | Google's free report builder: build your own GA4 dashboards |
| The GA4 interface | Everything GA4 can do, with a learning curve |
Replace GA4 with another tracker
| Tool | What it is |
|---|---|
| Plausible | Open-source, cookie-free, EU-hosted analytics with its own script |
| Fathom | Privacy-focused, cookie-free analytics with its own script |
| Simple Analytics | Privacy-first analytics from the Netherlands, with its own script |
| Umami | Open-source analytics you can host yourself, with a cloud version |
| DataFast | Analytics for founders with revenue attribution, with its own script |
| Vercel Web Analytics | Built into Vercel, for sites hosted there |
