What are views in GA4?
Views in GA4 count every time a page is viewed, including repeat views by the same person. How they differ from users and sessions, and where to find them.
Views in Google Analytics 4 count every time a page (or app screen) was viewed, including when the same person views it again. One visitor reading five pages makes five views. SimpleDash calls them Page views.
How views are counted
GA4 counts a view for each page_view event (and screen_view in apps). With enhanced measurement on, a page view is also sent when a single-page app changes the address without reloading.
Reloading a page counts as another view. So does coming back to it later.
Views vs users vs sessions
| 1 person reads 3 pages, comes back tomorrow for 2 more | |
|---|---|
| Users | 1 |
| Sessions | 2 |
| Views | 5 |
Views per page
Reports → Engagement → Pages and screens shows views for each page, along with users and engagement time. Switch the first column to Page path and screen class to see addresses rather than titles.
In SimpleDash
Page views is GA4's views for the period, and the Pages card lists the top pages by views, with visitors next to them.
